"We all feel the pain and suffer this loss that hits so close to home," says University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks. Campus police and emergency management people helped with recovery.  Pillsbury Hall

Constructed in 1887, Pillsbury Hall is the second oldest building on the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota. It is appears on the National Register of Historic Places as a part of the old campus district, which includes portions of Northrop Mall and the Knoll Area.

The Newton Horace Winchell School of Earth Sciences has called Pillsbury Hall home for over 110 years. In its early days, Pillsbury was home to animal biology, botany, geology, mineralogy, and paleontology complete with lecture, recitation, laboratory, and museum rooms. Today, Pillsbury Hall is still home to the Newton Horace Winchell School of Earth Sciences. Only two components of the school, however, are housed within the building: the Department of Geology and Geophysics and the Limnological Research Center.
